Lazy and Slow

Running from the Sheratonacross the river, down the steps to the riverwalk, and out to the lakefront. There’s a nicely paved bike path. I run past Buckingham fountain and I’m already tired. It’s not too hot, but definitely hotter than SF ever gets. I’m on the path between the lake and Lake Shore Drive. tons of bikers and walkers and people out enjoying the day.

I decide to run to Shedd Aquarium, which has a new expansion tacked onto the back of it.

There’s a gaggle of Segways… I think some sort of park tour. Strange. I run up to Shedd on a dirt path, back on the sidewalk as I approach. There’s the water taxi. And then run up the stairs to the door and tag it.

And then run around behind Shedd, and contemplate going out to the planetarium. But am too lazy. tomorrow I’ll go further (didnt wind up running on Sunday). Instead, run behind Shedd, and then into Grant park, through the viaduct under Lake Shore drive. I run for a bit, back to the Essex Hotel, and then start walking/jogging.

Across from the Orchestral Hall, I feel like running, it’a time for glory gear. And I run in high gear for a couple blocks. Then i’m done.

When I get to the art institute, I’m just walking, cooling down.

And then i’m off into Millenium Park.

Actual running time? 5:25pm to maybe 6:10pm. 3 miles, maybe.

Middle Drive

5 miler in the park with Jenn at 10:30am. Couldn’t get my left contact lense in so it was running with glasses today. Man, I’m wheezing like an old man when i run in the mornings, or maybe i wheeze all the time and I only notice it when I feel self-concious cause I have a running partner.

RAn down middle drive, and back up the the sidewalk behind the speedway softball fields. Damn, that’s a long slow incline. I’d rather run down to bernice rodgers and then up back along JFK drive. It’s more up and down, amd less slow and aggravating rise.

I need to do more Presidio runs.

Saturday Stow Lake

3-4 miles, slow, with Jenn. Didn’t feel like Running fast at all. Stow Lake and up MLK, behind old Science Academy. I actually walked home from the park. so lazy…

GGP – Stow Lake to Ocean Beach via MLK trails, and back.

Sunday run with W. at the usual time, 10:30am.

I tried to sneak up on her, by coming down the path behind the conservatory from the east, rather than down the drive from the west. I didn’t quite make it, as she got a chance glance at me as I came around the main conservatory stairs on the grass (I should have crawled on all fours, I guess).

I did surprise her a little bit. But I wanted that come-from-behind !BOO! effect. That woulda made my day.

Instead I had to settle for a run.

Felt kind of slow, so we headed to Stow Lake, ran through the inner east loop, and then out to MLK. We ran down the south side of MLK, where the sidewalk turns to trail after you cross 19th Ave. That’s actually kind of fun down there, althoguh the trail isn’t well maintained. Down to Great Highway, I made a bathroom pitstop at the Beach Chalet, and then we turned back up JFK, running on the north side. Stopped for water at the Sailboat pond. Through Rose Garden woods, and then back to Conservatory.

We had a good chat, I got my wind on JFK and had a good streak of conversation there at the end. 7.5 miles. I half ran, half waled back home from there.test

Getting back into the groove

Wow, this was a pretty active week.

Monday, played tennis.

Tuesday evening with J. at Crissy Field. 3miles? Late run, but still light out. Windy.

Wednesday was soccer.

Thursday down Lake Street, with Mountain Lake Park detour. Indian guy asks me how to get back to the Marina from here; he’s run from Pacific and Gough. I point him up the hill towards Washington St. I thought I might go longer; but I only run to 30th. just over 4 miles.

Friday night with J., again, this time in GGP from the end of the panhandle down to the inner loop on Stow Lake and back. 3 miles, I’m guessing. Started off breezy but I took off my wind breaker by the end of the run.

Saturday, I just rode from my place to K’s in the sunset, and then to a haircut, and then back from a movie.

Sunday morning, 5 miler. Run with W. from Conservatory in GGP down Middle drive and back. Lots of good stories and catching up.

Sunday afternoon, played tennis again, with p’Joi this time was longer, 1hr 20 minutes, and we only waited 30 minutes to get a court. Was super windy, so I was running around chasing down balls. we had several good volleys, so hopefully I’m improving.

So, I need to keep this pace up and build the base back up. J. says once I get back into the groove he’s gonna push me harder. We’ll see about that. At least I’m not in complete sluggitude.nn1

Lincoln Park

First run past 30th Avenue. I’m extending how far I’m willing to go, pushing out my turn-around. I made it into the golf course at Lincoln Park, and the beginning of Land’s End in GGNRA.

Overcast, with just a glimpse of sunlight as I set out. It was dark for most of the run. That bothered me less than you might expect. Nice and cool.

My ipod ran out of juice after 5 minutes. Had to carry the darn thing the whole run, though.

55 minutes, 5 miles. 4th and Lake to 30th Ave. continued on Lake into El Camino Del Mar, to the Land’s End sign. Crosswalk into the golf course, all the way to Clement and 35th Ave. turn around and back to El Camino, dowm El Camino to 26th, where I gutted uphill to Lake. Then retracing my steps all the way back down Lake.

Running – Cloudy Ocean Beach

Did a run on Saturday on Ocean beach with Jay, around noon. Really cloudy, nice for a run.

I kept on wanting to speed up, and my pace was uneven. I ran faster than usual, but didn’t really hit a stride the whole time. When Jay took off, I couldn’t find the median between his pace, and a notch faster than our warmup pace. So I kept speeding up/ slowing down. Still, a decently quick 4 miles.

Jay told a funny story about inappropriate co-worker comments that had me laughing for a long block.

Later today I bought a timex ironman watch. So i’ll be posting distance/running times from now on.

Glacial Running

Went for a standard 3.2 mile run this morning. I was moving soooo slowly. Almost immediately I felt pain in my ankles and my left knee felt a little soft.

But I ran it, slowing to a walking pace only a couple times.

It was not a stellar run, by any means, but I got out there, and I think my pace on the way back in was not bad at all.

I did get passed alot, which I hate to admit.

Big guy in brown t-shirt (UPS?) was just hauling down the left sidewalk. He passed me easily and had already turned around at Park Presidio and made his way back a couple blocks. But it doesn’t matter.

Bow-legged poor form running asian girl (12?) passed me at a trot. She had terrible form though. But it doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t matter because I got my butt out the door, the sun is shining, and I am a runner today.

I think I’ll take more time to warm up and stretch when I run in the mornings, though. And I may need to get a new pair of shoes.

Mountain Lake Loop

Ran the regular route, down Lake. at Park Presidio hit a red light, so looped instead around Mountain Lake and under the overpass to the hospital. Then back on 30th and back.

I started at 6:15pm. I was in a hurry to get back by 7pm. Made it by 6:58.

I’m still pretty slow, and I took the leg out as a warmup. Felt good running the way back, and started to stretch out a bit for the last 8 blocks. I could have run more.

3.2 miles.

It was super misty-foggy. I don’t think people who live elsewhere actually know what real fog is.

Misty run through the Presidio

7:20 to 8:23pm.

guessing about 5 miles.

in the twilight, heavy fog. a great cooling mist.

I ran down Lake to 30th, swung down El Camino Del Mar and the down Lincoln into the Presidio. Ran through the Baker Beach parking lot, where 5-6 boys on scooters hailed the 29 bus, but then didn’t get on. Their ringleader had a gasoline powered scooter. He said something as I ran by, but I have no idea what.

Ran up Pershing Drive, and then had to cut through the Presidio volunteers area. Pershing is a steep hill–I’d be better off going one more street to the zig-zag up… Washington Drive. Anyway, up Wedermeyer to Washington (past the California Quail crossing sign) and then really started to hit my stride. I lengthened my stride all across the Presidio, and then headed into the woods on the dirt trail. Out by the golf course and down Arguello back to Lake and 4th Ave.

I listened to a mix of Snow Patrol and Ambulance, which is actually great running music. I’m hooked on a Snow Patrol song called “Run”. Listened to it twice during the run.

I think that was about a 5 mile run. Pretty happy. Showertime.

Oh, I started with the new Ascics shoes with the arch supports. Hated it. Turned around at 9th avenue and came back for my Brooks. Need to figure that out.
